Choosing your mowing frequency
Fortnightly or four-weekly mowing: which suits your lawn?
Choose the gap between mows around how your lawn is growing. Two weeks can suit moderate growth; four weeks can suit slower growth. Some lawns need mowing more often than either option.

Start with what your lawn needs
Bayview Lawn & Garden offers fortnightly and four-weekly recurring mowing in the Busselton area. The right choice depends on what happens to your lawn between visits.
If it gets long well before the next mow, the gap needs a rethink. If it has barely grown, a shorter interval may be unnecessary. A booking frequency is a starting point to review as conditions change.
Why the answer changes through the year
Busselton has warmer, drier summers and cooler, wetter winters. The Bureau of Meteorology’s long-term Busselton Aero records show that seasonal pattern clearly. Your lawn’s response also depends on the grass variety and its growing conditions.
WA turf guidance recommends different mowing intervals by grass type and season. For example, its summer intervals for buffalo, couch and kikuyu are shorter than those for zoysia. A lawn’s winter schedule should therefore be reassessed when growth picks up.

When fortnightly mowing can suit
Consider a two-week schedule when the lawn makes enough growth to need a regular trim, but still looks manageable by the next visit. It also gives you more frequent mowing and edging than a four-week schedule.
Check what happens before day 14. If the grass is already much too long, fortnightly mowing may still leave too large a gap. The Turf Growers Association of WA gives summer guidance of around 7–10 days for several warm-season grass types, so a two-week gap may still be too long during rapid growth.

When four-weekly mowing can suit
A four-week schedule can be worth considering when growth has slowed enough that the lawn remains manageable between visits. WA turf guidance includes winter intervals of roughly three to five weeks, depending on the grass type.
There are fewer scheduled visits than with fortnightly mowing, but that only works if the lawn suits the gap. If you spend the final week wishing it had been cut sooner, or each mow needs a heavy cut, review the interval rather than simply repeating it.

Use the one third rule as a check
For routine mowing, aim to remove no more than about a third of the grass leaf in one cut. If reaching the intended height would take off substantially more, the lawn may need a shorter gap between mows or a more gradual approach to bringing it down.
Cutting extra low to make the next mow last longer can stress the lawn. Check the recommended cutting height for your turf variety as well as deciding how often to mow. Water Corporation advises matching height and frequency to your grass and the season.

If the lawn is already overgrown
Flag its condition before booking a standard mow. Returning an overgrown lawn to a regular maintenance height can need a different approach from an ordinary trim.
In Bayview’s quote form, photos are required for an overgrown lawn so its condition can be reviewed. The quote is a base price; any extra work or first-visit charge is agreed before work starts. Some lawns will need a tailored quote.

Choose your next step
Look at the lawn a week after its next mow and again around the two-week mark. Note whether it needs a trim, is still tidy or has already become difficult to manage. Use that pattern to choose a starting frequency, and reassess it when growth changes.
If your lawn is outgrowing a two-week gap, speak with Bayview before choosing a recurring plan. When you’re ready, select your lawn size and frequency in the quote tool, then enter your address to check your quote and available dates.
